China & the Himalayas · c. 1950–1990

Objects with a history, sourced one at a time.

Every piece is photographed in the condition you will receive it, wear and all. We date conservatively, describe flaws plainly, and never call something older than it is.

Photography shot list

This is the part you cannot outsource and the part that decides your conversion rate. Shoot all six frames for every piece, in this order, on the same background under the same lighting. The condition frames are not optional — they are what makes a buyer trust a seller they have never met.

1
Main / Hero

Full object, centred, dark ground. Single directional light from one side to build form. Your listing thumbnail.

Required
2
Three-quarter

Rotated roughly 45°. Reveals depth and profile the flat shot hides.

Required
3
Macro / texture

Close on surface, patina, hammer marks or weave. Raking light. This is where craftsmanship reads.

Required
4
Base / marks

Underside, maker's mark, seal or stamp. Buyers look here first.

Required
5
Condition detail

The flaw, straight on, fully lit, no softening. One frame per flaw.

Required
6
Scale reference

Object beside a hand, coin or ruler — imperial and metric.

Required
A note on the dark palette: dark grounds flatter metal, bronze, lacquer and old textile — the objects separate from the background and the patina reads. But they are unforgiving of bad lighting. You need one controlled directional source plus a soft fill, and you must shoot the condition frames on a brighter neutral ground so flaws stay clearly visible. Never hide a flaw in shadow — that is the one thing that will cost you the sale and the customer.
